For the second year, the Epicurean Hotel is hosting the “Where Love Grows” five-class cooking series for participants from Tampa area Boys & Girls Clubs. The program is a partnership between the Where Love Grows foundation, founded by Vicki Anzalone, the Boys & Girls Clubs and the hotel.
The series began on July 7 with a hotel orientation and tour given by Tom Haines, general manager of the Epicurean, as well as a tour of Bern’s Steak House and a meeting with David Laxer. During the classes, participants are given hands-on instruction by Epicurean chef, Max Sherard. The goal of these classes is to have the children prepare their own lunch each week, learn about healthy eating and how to create easy healthy meals for themselves at home. The last cooking class takes place on July 29, with the graduation ceremony scheduled for August 5.
Last year, 22 students successfully graduated with a 98% attendance rate. This year, there are 26 participants, three of which were in the program last year.
The Where Love Grows Foundation is leading the crusade to end childhood hunger in Hillsborough County and beyond. They have prepared and served more than 4,000 meals since January 2013. www.wherelovegrows.com
