Epic Chef Showdown Spotlight: Parkshore Grill Vs. Mise en Place

This Monday, July 17th, the Epic Chef Showdown continues! Each week chefs from the best restaurants in Tampa Bay battle it out in the Epicurean Theatre. Given a mystery box full of unusually paired ingredients, the chefs have to think on their feet to create the perfect dish; all while being timed in front of a live audience (not stressful at all).  Last week we watched a tough competition between The Mill and Local Market/FarmTable Kitchen. The chefs were tasked with creating a swoon-worthy dish out of rock shrimp, turkey bacon, Hershey’s syrup and yellowfin tuna. Chef Jeff Thornberry was crowned winner of the first round and will move on to the semifinals!

This week, former coworkers will compete in the second round of Epic Chef Showdown. NFL Wide Reciever, Vincent Jackson, Food & Dining Editor of Palm Beach Post, Liz Balmaseda and Executive Chef of Cena, Michael Butacavoli will have the tough job of judging the delectable dishes. I asked the head chefs of this week’s competing restaurants a few questions about the upcoming showdown, here’s what they had to say:

Who is the competing chef and why did you nominate this chef?

Parkshore Grill: Chris Stockwell has been a sous chef at Parkshore Grille for over 5 years. Last year our other sous chef competed, this year it’s Chris’ turn.
Mise en Place:
Paul Bouche, our pastry chef of 15 years. He really wanted to compete in Epic Chef Showdown.

What got you interested in working with Feeding Tampa Bay?

Parkshore Grill: Love the cause.  As chefs and restaurateurs, it is our duty to assist the hunger issues both locally and globally through knowledge, exposure and philanthropy.

Mise en Place: We really believe in what Feeding Tampa Bay does. We have been involved with their Fork Fight event since the very beginning.

What part of Epic Chef Showdown are you most excited about?

Parkshore Grill: Chris Stockwell and Paul Bouche worked together years ago, so it will be really fun to watch!

Mise en Place: I am most excited to see Paul compete. I am anxious to see what he brings to the competition since he has never done an event like this.
